Bestselling author and executive coach, Marshall Goldsmith, sat down for a conversation with Halftime Institute spokesperson, Lloyd Reeb, to discuss the halftime phenomenon and what the Institute is learning about how to best help people move from success to significance.

Lloyd shares, “A growing number of us reach a point in life where we look up from our desk and we wonder ‘Is there more to life than this?’ ‘Is there something else that would give my life more purpose meaning, joy, and balance?’ and we realize that because of longevity we have maybe 30 bonus years for the back end of life. We’ve arrived here without a really strong plan for how we are going to use it. There is a smoldering discontent that prompts us, asking ‘What will we do with these bonus years?’”

Some of Marshall’s wisdom includes, “In my work as an executive coach, I have worked with people my age or almost my age and the topic is ‘What are we going to do now?’. One of the things I tell them is that playing bad golf with old men at the country club and eating chicken salad sandwiches every day while discussing gallbladder surgery may not be as dynamic as you think. Really challenging people that you need to find two things: happiness and meaning. You need to do work that you feel is meaningful. Ironically, the more successful we become in life the more challenging it can be…”
